Go to the shopSo how and when did we start? It all started a few days after a family reunion. I was sitting on the couch with my sister and we were discussing the various challenges associated with her autoimmune disease. She had learned that she could best manage her symptoms by carefully managing her diet. This, of course, lead into a discussion of some of the things she missed eating. One of those things was chocolate! Who wouldn’t miss chocolate?! She told me that she could still get her “fix” with chocolate substitutes and one of those was carob. I thought she said “carrot” so I was clearly skeptical as to how a carrot could taste like chocolate. Thankfully I have a patient sister and she helped me understand what carob actually is.
Our discussion continued and my sister told me that she would love to have a protein or other tasty foods that would adhere to her dietary needs. I have formulated health products for years and I determined I could give her what she was looking for. A week later I had requested the ingredients needed to start the formulating process for the first Autoimmune Chocolate (carob) Protein. A few months later and after several renditions we finally landed on a formula that meets her needs and tastes great! We are both pleased with the results and we hope you will be too! Give it a try and you’ll see what happens when family comes together!
Our company started when a sister educated a brother and a brother helped a sister. We want to take the nutritional needs of families and help provide a tasty option for mothers, fathers, and children. We want strong and clear communication from YOU so we know how to better serve and help you achieve your health needs. We know that your achievement is your own but we want to do everything we can to promote you and your family as you exercise and eat!
We love Anne! This is her story and pushed us to start Autoimmune Health & Nutrition
In 2008 after the birth of my fist child I experienced severe joint pain in my hands, wrists, elbows, hips, and feet. I had had similar pains before becoming pregnant from time to time but after a day or two the pain would fade so I tried my best to tolerant the discomfort. It wasn’t until I woke up in the middle of the night unable to sleep with severe foot pain that I decided to seek professional help.
The primary care physician sent me in for an x-ray suspecting a possible break. My foot was not broken so the physician ordered some blood work. After seeing the lab results, I was informed that I may have Rheumatoid Arthritis and was referred to a Rheumatologist where the diagnosis was confirmed. I had more exams and an MRI.
I was skeptical of the diagnosis. I was young and active. To the best of my knowledge I tried to eat healthy. It seemed like a rash diagnosis from my perspective. My husband and I decided to give it some time. I wanted to make sure that my body was really attacking itself (seems silly now). A year after the diagnosis, I had another MRI on my hands and wrists which showed deterioration. I needed to do something.
For the next few years, I was on and off different medications because of pregnancies. After the second two pregnancies, I was only able to breastfeed my babies for about four months because the chronic pain was overwhelming. At first the medications worked marvelously, at least that’s what I thought. I didn’t feel like I had arthritis.
As time progressed the pain returned even though I was taken prescription medications. In the beginning of 2013, the Rheumatologist wanted to prescribe biologic medications. I really don’t have a science mind and honestly didn't know if these medications would work work so I was hesitant. I was so hesitant that I put off making the decision to take the meds for 6 months. I agreed to the biologic medications. Much to my surprise, insurance would not cover the cost of the new medication and the financial aid was not approved.
Throughout that year (2013) I had many influences that tried to convince me there was another way of treatment for my arthritis. Each one of these influences was necessary for me. By March of 2014, I was seeing chiropractor. He helped me discover what I needed to do to heal. The first visit he told me there was no reason I needed to be on the medications I was taking. I thought he was responding a little extreme, after all those medications had offered me some relief. Nonetheless, I began his treatment protocol. In addition, I began following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP).
This isn’t a one-pill kind of miracle. I had to change my entire way of eating, get more rest and maintain a low stress level (not easy to do raising a small family). It was hard. It still is hard sometimes, but I’m off all prescription medications now.
After stopping the prescription medications (July 2015), I attended a family reunion. My brother picked us up from the airport late at night. In an attempt to help him stay awake, I pestered him with questions about his job. I learned he was in the health food business and he made protein powders. This discovery got me excited because maybe, just maybe he could make a protein powder that I could eat!
We talked more over the week of the reunion, and he started to think that he should begin to look into it. Over the next few months he would contact me about different ingredient and send me samples. Each sample was better until we found the right formula and the right name, Autoimmune Health & Nutrition.
I’m still on my journey of complete healing (but haven’t had an arthritic flare since September 2015) and am glad to have a product like the Paleo Perfection Protein that I can take with ease. We hope to continue to work to bring more Autoimmune Protocol and Paleo food options to all in need. From my family to yours I wish you the best on your journey to healing!
