Tip 12, Focus Don’t Compare : How To Succeed At Big 4 Dieting (Paleo, Keto, AIP, SCD)

We’ve all heard the story of the businessman or woman who after just a few days in business became a millionaire…it was an unexpected result for even them! Once people discovered their success they attempt to duplicate it in hopes they would receive the same result. These kinds of stories can be demoralizing for those who have been in business for years and years without much success. These scenarios are similar to what those on the Big 4 Diets experience (Paleo, Paleo Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), or Keto diet). Some may be living their new diet for just days and see miraculous results and others, like Anne, don’t see those results for two years or more. It is very easy to become envious of those with instant success and, not to mention, can be downright frustrating!

The key to avoid becoming frustrated is to understand our own uniqueness and be grateful for our own success. We also need to be happy for those that are succeeding. As we’ve said before the Paleo and Keto diets are tough and the AIP & SCD diets aren’t for the faint in heart so we should band together rather than finding ways to become upset with one another. Avoiding comparisons and focusing on encouragement which is reminiscent of Tip 11 that we recently discussed. Optimism and gratitude can smother any envy and allow us to see the advantages of our path.

For a very long time the word “diet” has been associated with two things. (1) Diets are meant to make us skinny and (2) they only last for a short period of time. The reason Paleo, AIP, SCD, and Keto diets are sometimes so hard to begin is because our focus should be on wellness and longevity. Meaning we shouldn’t just “diet” to lose weight and our “diet” shouldn’t be brief. Sure the Paleo or AIP diet will help us lose weight but our focus should be on wellness and wellness comes in all shapes and sizes. After our focus has changed to wellness rather than skinny we can begin to grasp why our change in diet truly is a change in lifestyle and will last much longer than a few weeks.
